Eric and Jackson escaped overnight to our Ward's "Fathers & Sons Campout." This year's event was held at a campsite next to the Pinto Valley copper mine between Superior and Globe.
This annual camping event brings men together to commemorate the Restoration of the Priesthood. Friday evening our ward had a big campfire program about the priesthood, complete with a large screen projector and video clips! Eric said the fireside was very well done and extremely touching; and that Jackson sat reverently and listened during the entire time.
This is a favorite quote from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland about the priesthood:
"The priesthood of God is as indispensable to the true Chruch of God as it is unique to it and that without it there would be no Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints."
Jackson has been excited for weeks to go on this campout! We read a myriad of camping picture books prior to the event, but his 2 favs were "When Daddy Took Us Camping" by Julie Brillhart and "Fred and Ted Go Camping" by Peter Eastman. He even insisted that the books come along on the camping trip!!
He started drooling whenever he thought about sleeping in a tent and sleeping bag! Completely hilarious!!
I believe Jackson instantly became a fan of camping when we read in a book about roasting marshmallows!! Definitely a highlight!!
Eric's still refusing to tell me how many marshmallows Jackson ate that night! "What happens at camp, stays at camp!"
On the way home, Jackson spotted the Superior History Trail park along the side of the road. This park highlights the town's deep mining roots. Jackson loved looking at the trains, mine cars, equipment, and mock elevators.
I am so happy that they were able to share this special event!

So much fun! Breck can't wait until he gets to take Grant! Sophie says she wants to go camping after looking at these pictures! We want to come by and bring Jackson his birthday present!
